Part B News Quotes John Leardi on Growth of AI in Healthcare

Buttaci Leardi & Werner member John Leardi was quoted in an article in Part B News’s annual Predictions issue titled “PBN Eyes the Future: AI Growth, Fee-Based Practice Changes, Compliance Concerns, and More.” The article, published January 5, discusses the rapid growth of AI in healthcare.

The editors cite the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) as one of the biggest storylines of the year. They say it could affect many diverse areas ranging from integration into clinical work to legal issues and device expansions.

“The promise of AI is not that it’s going to dictate clinical decisions,” says Leardi. “But it could give the proverbial whisper in a doctor’s ear — ‘have you considered this?’ — and point to something in this enormous data set that they might have overlooked.”

Another prediction for the coming year is the emergence of AI HIPAA issues around ambient listening.

Leardi explains that ambient listening technologies are becoming increasingly popular because they combine the patient encounter with other inputs to generate a narrative note, “which is far easier than the physician having to sit there and click through prompts or a series of scroll-down menus.”
