Part B News Quotes Paul Werner on Predictions for Healthcare Law for 2025

Paul Werner

Buttaci, Leardi & Werner member Paul Werner was quoted throughout an article in Part B News titled “PBN Casts Fearless Predictions on Behavioral Health, AI and More.” The article, published December 19, 2024, features insights from Werner and other healthcare industry thought leaders on the healthcare topics that will be commanding headlines in 2025.

While the article states that artificial intelligence will continue to penetrate health care, AI will remain far away from the clinical side.

“We struggle it with it as lawyers,” Werner says. “There are courts that require you to sign certifications when you submit something attesting to the fact that you did not use AI in drafting it.”

The article also discusses the future of enforcement action by the Department of Justice. In 2024, the DOJ launched its corporate whistleblower pilot program, but the Trump administration is expected to be business friendly and put corporate interests over those of government enforcers. Still, it’s a matter of competing interests.

“I don’t expect a huge decline in healthcare-related cases because there’s just too much money to be recovered from it,” Werner says.

The article also predicts that private equity will continue to sweep up practices.

“You would think that private equity might be saturated [with independent practice plays],” says Werner, “but from what we can see, they continue to be on a buying spree.”

Werner adds that while there may be a lull in private equity activity in the early months of 2025, don’t be fooled.

“Q1 is always going to be slow because they’re building their funds and they don’t have any real pressure to spend it at that point. But certainly, by Q3 there are going to be big spends because those funds have raised all that money that they’ve got to do something with it or they have to return it to investors.”
