Paul Werner Discusses Corporate Whistleblower Program on McKnight’s Newsmakers Podcast

Buttaci, Leardi & Werner member Paul D. Werner was a featured guest on McKnight’s Newsmakers Podcast. During the episode, Werner and host Jim Berklan, the executive editor of McKnight’s Long Term Care, discussed the Department of Justice’s new Corporate Whistleblower Awards pilot program and the impact it could have on the healthcare industry.

In particular, Werner explained how the pilot program differs from the False Claims Act. First, he said it doesn’t limit its scope to federal healthcare payers and second, it focuses on allegations in a criminal — as opposed to civil — light.

“I think anything the government openly describes as a ‘bounty program’ should be concerning to anybody,” Werner said.
